T23 Medium Tank*
*
Planned successor to the M-4 Sherman series*
of tanks, this was the first of several series of*
prototypes that the US Army ordered during*
World War II in a line of development which*
culiminated in the M-26 Pershing.*
*
The first T23 pilot was completed in January 1943,*
and was deemed promising enough that a production*
contract for 250 tanks was approved in May 1943.*
*
However, when the ETO was informed in February*
1945 that 200~ T23s were available, they were rejected*
due to difficulties such as maintenance concerns*
(the T23 had a electric transmission), and problems in*
retraining mechanics to work on the electric drives.*
